Steve

Hello! I'm Steve Graven, your friendly neighborhood house and pet sitter. I grew up in Moorpark, California, where my family lived on a small ranch. We had a variety of animals, from cats and dogs to livestock. Over the years, we welcomed horses, baby cows, goats, chickens, and even a duck for a while! My early experiences in 4H, where I raised a pig for auction, taught me the importance of respecting and caring for animals like family.

As a teenager, I sought ways to earn extra money, and caring for animals was a natural fit. I cleaned stables, fed livestock, and watched neighbors' dogs. I also spent several years working at an exotic bird farm, where I learned about caring for parrots such as Macaws and Cockatoos, some of which were endangered. That experience was truly meaningful and transformative for me.

As an adult, my pets have included Buddy, the energetic Jack Russell who could outpace greyhounds; Zeva, our calm yet spoiled German Shepherd; and Bear, the lovable chunky Mexican Chihuahua man. I've faced various situations with pets, from caring for them during recovery from surgery to dealing with pet emergencies, like when I rushed a pet to the ER for a rattlesnake bite.

Since I retired from the Army in 2019, I've dedicated my time to looking after homes and their beloved pets. I've cherished pets my entire life, treating them like family. When I care for yours, you can be assured they will receive the same love and attention.

Mission

I would like to say thank you for taking a second out of your busy day to look at what I have to offer. I have been a pet lover and owner my entire life. I have had numerous pets over the years and the issue I always ran into was pet care. It always was a challenge to find good dependable people to watch my pets so I could go on a trip and not have to try and accommodate my animals into my plans.

Sometimes I wish I could trust my friends but when I needed them, they were busy, or some people were just not PET people. Let’s face it, sometimes you get what you pay for. On the same token, you don’t want your pet care to cost more than your vacation.

Being in the military I got stationed here and when I did, I had 4 animals at the time. Finding someone to watch my pets when I went to the field or needed to go out of town was an issue. Most of the time I didn’t like the options for pet care or simply it was not in the budget, so the compromise was to stay home or most of the time the trip would have to be one person.

While I loved my pets the care options that I trusted were limited in this area at best. The worst thing of all is if I did take my animals to a boarding facility, I took my pets out of their safe place and that was not an option. Now my pet is boarded, and my home is unprotected. That just didn’t give me the warm and fuzzy as a homeowner. I figure it won’t be for you either and that’s where good night pups was created for people like us who have pets and want to keep them at home.
